Watching Allison Hightower (LSU) now..and she's a very, very skilled scorer.
But what really caught my attention is when the commentator said she has 8 rebounds about halfway through the second half.
Although she is not averaging that many on the season, I'm wondering how important guard rebounding is for the college to WNBA transition. Hollinger has written that strong rebounding guards tend to do well in the NBA...
She has not been a great rebounder this season...she is not even top 10 at the guard spot. I think rebounding is a bigger indicator in the women's game than is generally considered for guards. That is why I use it for all of my positional ratings. I just make it more important for the posts. Hightower is a great scorer and well rounded which are her statistical strengths.
I was much more impressed with Ole Miss' G Bianca Thomas yesterday -- lower fg% on the season, but solid rebounding average.
Where might she rank? It does appear she turns the ball over a lot, which is not good because she's rarely handling it outside of scoring opportunities.
I am not tracking anyone from Ole Miss this season. They have six seniors on the roster, but none struck me as being draft picks.
What do you think about Alysha Clark?
I heard someone say that she is the best player you've never heard of
I have not had a chance to see her play yet. Statistically she is VERY impressive and is clearly one of the great NCCA seniors this year. The main knock on Clark is that she is playing Power Forward for Middle TN and is not a very strong shooter, scoring most of points under the basket. At 5'10" she simply won't be able to play the post as a pro in the WNBA. She will need to develop range on her shot. Without being a strong shooter, it may be hard for her to do well overseas, either. She will get drafted and have a chance to prove herself in camp.
