Game Twenty-Two: Storm @ Fever 18 July, 2008

One down, four to go. Unfortunately, I believe that the next game just got considerably more difficult.

Detroit simply embarrassed the Mystics last night in a 99-62 blowout which was the straw that fired Coach Tree Rollins. Teams tend to play with extra heart after a blowout loss like that, and they also seem to get a boost from a coaching change. Former Storm assistant Jessie Kenlaw takes the helm in DC for the time being. The team will need to come in focused tomorrow.

The Fever game did not move like I expected, but in the end was what I predicted. It was a defensive slug-out and the team with the most offense won. Pilight is feeling that Tully is a big part of the Fever's problem, so we will see how they do in her four game absence. Bond played well last night.

Normally a true shooting percentage below 50% doesn't make this list, but the solid 62% Floor percentage shows how important Yo was beyond her rebounding last night. Kelly Santos continues to have an impact whenever she plays.

Hi! It looks like you got the Mystics game exactly right...they played with extra heart times 100 it seemed. I have to be honest, I thought we'd lose Indy and win the Washington game. Luckily I didn't put any money in this. :)

It'll be interesting to see how they do against Minnesota after that ugly game.

What are your thoughts on the rest of the sans-LJ games?

Thanks! And love your blog. I tried to keep a Storm/Duke blog but I kept slacking off so mine is now dormant. :)

Oops, I forgot to add, I know you talked about the rest of the games in the post before this but I was wondering after the first 2 games, if you see a difference in the next 3.

Minnesota is a toss up. They are wildly unpredictable. Their wins and losses hold no consistency. If the Storm are embarrassed by their loss to Washington and come out with the same heart the Mystics showed yesterday, then they win. If they let their defense slack like they did in DC, they lose.

Phoenix is also a toss up. Without LJ it is a tough game for Seattle. The rover defense won't be focused on LJ freeing up the other players, which will mean trouble for Seattle. Tanisha Wright has played brilliant defense on Cappie this year. Diana is simply unstoppable. I don't think Seattle wins unless Dee has an off night.

The Monarchs are playing better, but I believe the Storm can out play them even without LJ, especially in Key Arena.
